Happy Pride Month
Happy Pride, Tribunes! Pride Month is honored each year in June and many
people associate this visibility month with the Stonewall Uprising, which took
place at the end of June in 1969, and which signified a major turning point for
the LGBTQ+ movement in the United States. Governor Hochul’s recent
announcement that all SUNY campuses will update their policies regarding the
use of a chosen name and pronouns to ensure that transgender, gender
non-conforming, and non-binary students' identities are fully reflected and
represented on campuses was an important step forward in the promotion of more
inclusive college campus environments. To piggyback off of this announcement,
the Counseling Center and Disability Services office is sharing a few helpful
resources, below:
- The Trevor Project
provides information and support to LGBTQ young people 24/7, year round, via
phone at 866-488-7386 or via online chat.
- The Gender Wellness Center offers an educational word/term
glossary.
- Campus Pride is a national student-led organization that offers the
Campus Pride Index and other helpful resources.
- National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) shares information about
intersectionality and important risk factors of LGBTQI mental health.
