SUNY Health and Safety Guidance Update

On Jan. 19, SUNY updated its Surveillance Testing Supplemental Academic Continuity and the Health and Safety of Students, Faculty, and Staff Policy for Winter and Spring Terms 2021. Please be aware of the following requirements, now in effect, as we prepare for our spring semester start on Monday, Jan. 25:

  • Campuses must resume surveillance testing as soon as students return to campus, pursuant to the individual campus testing plans incorporated into the campus reopening plans and SUNY’s Mandatory COVID-19 Testing Program as announced on September 4, 2020. MCC mandatory pooled (saliva) testing sessions for the spring semester kick off on Monday morning, Jan. 25 on the Brighton Campus. After next week, weekly sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
  • For the Spring 2021 semester, campuses shall test, on at least a weekly basis, 100 percent of all students, faculty, and staff who live on campus and/or plan to be on campus regularly (including instruction, co-curricular activities, and meetings) shall be tested regularly. This requirement changed from biweekly to weekly.
  • Those who have had a positive PCR test should not participate in surveillance testing for 90 days from the date of their positive test. Upon conclusion of the 90 days, they should be included in regular surveillance testing per the campus plan. If you test positive for COVID-19, please follow your county's health department directives and immediately notify MCC Health Services (healthsvc@monroecc.edu) and the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (studentrights@monroecc.edu).
  • Vaccine recipients shall also be included in surveillance testing. There is no evidence that immunity exists after vaccination; therefore, weekly testing during the spring semester is still required following vaccination.
