Program Information:
*When choosing SUNY Elective courses, refer to: SUNY General Education
Courses: http://www.monroecc.edu/etsdbs/MCCatPub.nsf/suny+gen+ed?OpenView
NOTE: Geneseo's General Education courses in Foreign Language help
students achieve proficiency in listening, reading, speaking, and writing
as well as familiarity with other cultures. Not all students will require
the same number of courses to achieve proficiency. The various options
for demonstrating proficiency are: A. Successful completion of four
complete years of high school level foreign language; B. A score
of 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement Examination in a foreign language;
C. Placement beyond the first intermediate level on Geneseo’s language
placement examination. This exam is offered at orientation, at designated
times during the semester (see the department’s web site for dates), or
online (this option may require a pre-approved proctor and a fee may be
assessed by the testing agency). The placement exam is mandatory for any
student who wishes to enroll in courses offered by the Department of Languages
and Literatures; D. Completion of college-level work in a foreign
language (at Geneseo or another institution) through the first intermediate
level. For students seeking certification in education, the language requirement
may be met by three semesters of American Sign Language.
NOTE: Students completing this
program will complete at least 6 required and 12 elective hours of the
total 43 required hours for the Theatre major at Geneseo, leaving at most
25 hours. Students will also complete much of Geneseo's general education:
basic composition, mathematics, humanities, fine arts, other world civilizations,
one of two social sciences, one of two natural/lab sciences, or 27 out
of 46 credits. There would remain: foreign language through the 201 level
(9 credits), one social science, one natural/lab science, and a US History
class (19 credits).
NOTE: AP, IB, CLEP, HIGH SCHOOL DUAL CREDIT COURSES, ONLINE COURSES: Credits
showing as accepted at MCC may not be transferable. Students should meet
with a representative of the four year college or the MCC Advisement and
Transfer Services to determine if those credits are transferable.
