How to Apply for Financial Aid

Paying for college can feel overwhelming, but the financial aid process doesn’t have to be. Start by filling out the Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition to federal aid, FAFSA opens the door to state aid, scholarships, work-study funds, and more. Filing early matters because processing can take several weeks.

What You Will Need:
  • A FAFSA account (FSA ID) to sign in and sign the application
  • MCC FAFSA code: 002872
  • Your Social Security number
  • Tax returns and W-2s for you and your parent(s)

Check Your Application Status

It may take up to eight weeks after you’ve applied to receive your package, so check the status of your FAFSA and TAP applications on each website. Avoid delays by following these guidelines: 

  • Make sure Admissions has received and processed your required transcript(s) 
  • Check your MCC student email and myMCC portal regularly—this is where we’ll contact you with FAFSA verification issues, application errors, or missing items 
  • If documents are requested, respond as soon as possible to prevent any delays

Accept Your Financial Aid Package

After your FAFSA is processed, we’ll receive your information electronically and put together a financial aid package based on your eligibility. Once you’ve received your package, you can accept any offered financial aid awards in the myMCC portal.

Stay Eligible for Financial Aid

Before you make changes to your schedule, take a moment to see how they could affect your financial aid. Adjusting your enrollment can impact eligibility or repayment. Review the financial aid eligibility guidelines so you can make informed decisions before dropping or withdrawing from a class.
