What You’ll Learn

In MCC’s philosophy courses, you’ll learn how to: 

  • Understand major terms, ideas, and debates in Western humanities and philosophical traditions. 
  • Explore ethical theories and apply them to real issues like justice, human rights, and everyday decision‑making. 
  • Analyze and construct strong arguments using both formal logic and clear written reasoning. 
  • Examine relationships between philosophy, religion, culture, art, and politics from both Western and global perspectives. 
  • Study democratic values, human rights, and moral challenges in domestic and international contexts. 
  • Engage with philosophical questions across disciplines—from technology to medicine to global citizenship.

Recommended Options

Many areas of study include philosophy courses, such as business, health, and information technology. If you plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, several of our associate degrees provide a solid foundation to prepare you to transfer to a four-year program.

Associate of Arts (A.A.)
Many students interested in philosophy thrive in our Liberal Arts program. You’ll have the opportunity to take electives in philosophy as well as humanities and social sciences.

In this program, you’ll examine literature as an expression of the human experience. Philosophy courses are built into the curriculum, and you can take additional philosophy courses as electives.
