Sexual Offense Policy

The administration of Monroe Community College fully supports all local, New York State and federal laws governing harassment, rape and sexual assault and will prosecute to the fullest extent possible. See New York State Penal Law Article 130- Sex Offenses. In addition, it is a violation of the Monroe Community College Code of Conduct Regulations (Title IX Policies for Individuals Reporting Sexual Harassment and Misconduct). 

 

All appropriate sexual contact and conduct (kissing, hugging, touching) on the MCC Campus and occurring with a College Community member must be consensual. Violators are subject to the same disciplinary sanctions and appeal procedures as specified in the Code of Conduct, if applicable, up to and including expulsion from the institution and termination of employment status whether or not formal charges are brought against them. In any disciplinary action alleging a sexual assault, the accuser and the accused are entitled to the same opportunities to have persons present and must be informed of the outcome.

We are committed to providing prompt and compassionate support services to any victims of such assaults. If you or anyone you know has been a victim of a sexual offense on the Monroe Community College campus, we urge you to report the incident to Campus authorities. If you are a survivor of a sexual assault, you have the right to:

  • Report the incident to the Campus Public Safety Department for internal reporting and/or to pursue criminal charges
  • Seek medical treatment as soon as possible, preferably within 72 hours for: physical injuries sustained, sexually transmitted diseases (STD's), pregnancy prevention (if applicable), and the collection and preservation of evidence crucial to pursuing criminal action. (By law, evidence is maintained for a specified period of time to allow for this option should a victim not wish to pursue criminal charges immediately.)
  • Access the wide range of support services, including free and confidential counseling, provided by the College and/or the community. For more information go to RESTORE Sexual Assault Services.
