Course Description
A survey of American literature from the celebration of the new land in the Colonial Period to the Civil War. Readings and discussion focus on writers such as Franklin, Hawthorne, Poe, Emerson, Thoreau, Melville, Whitman, and Dickinson. Fall semester only. Three class hours. (SUNY-H) English 101 with a C or better, placement into English 200, or instructor permission.
