Scholarship Universe FAQs

Scholarship Universe is MCC's online scholarship platform that matches students with scholarship opportunities based on information from their student records and the questions they answer within the system. 

A complete list of scholarships funded through MCC and supported by the MCC Foundation is available on Monroe Community College’s Scholarship Universe platform.

To be eligible for MCC scholarships, you must be a matriculated student in good standing. A matriculated student is someone who has applied to and been accepted into a specific degree or certificate program through the Admissions Office.

You may be:

• A full-time or part-time student
• A first-time student
• An adult student
• A military-affiliated student
• A transfer student
• A returning student

Each scholarship has its own eligibility requirements, which are listed in Scholarship Universe along with application deadlines. Most scholarships consider factors such as academic achievement, program of study, financial need, or a combination of these criteria.  

Yes. Once you have applied to and been accepted by MCC, you can apply for scholarships even if you have not yet registered for classes. 

MCC scholarships are awarded twice each year:

• Fall Cycle: September 1 through October 31
• Spring Cycle: February 1 through March 31 

To apply, log in to Scholarship Universe and complete applications for the scholarships you are matched with and eligible to receive. Please note that although some scholarships use the same application, requirements typically vary by scholarship.

There is no cost to apply for a Monroe Community College scholarship.  

Yes. You may apply for as many scholarships as you are eligible for. However, each scholarship has its own application requirements. 

No. Submitting an application is the first step in the process. Each scholarship is reviewed by a committee of MCC faculty and staff who evaluate eligible applications. If you are selected, you will receive an email with instructions for accepting the award. 

Award amounts vary depending on the scholarship fund, available funding, and the number of recipients selected. Most MCC scholarship awards range from $200 to $3,000.

Scholarship awards are typically used to help pay for tuition, fees, and books at MCC. Any exceptions, such as room and board, will be noted in the scholarship description.

Typically, no. MCC scholarships are intended to provide partial financial support. We encourage students to explore additional forms of financial aid, including federal and state grants, loans, and work-study opportunities. Your financial aid package may include one or more of these resources.

When financial need is a factor, we use the information provided on the FAFSA.

Not necessarily. Once processed by Financial Aid, scholarship awards are typically applied directly to your student account and used toward your tuition bill for the semester in which the award was granted. 

If your tuition and fees have already been covered through other forms of aid or personal payment, you may receive the remaining scholarship funds as a refund. Refunds are issued by the Student Accounts Office through e-Refund or paper check.

No. Scholarships are charitable grants that do not need to be paid back, provided they are used for the purpose stated in the scholarship award.

Most scholarships are not renewable. However, some scholarships may be renewable or allow students to reapply. Check the scholarship description for specific details.
