Project Linus volunteers, known as "blanketeers," provide new, handmade, washable blankets to be given as gifts to seriously ill and traumatized children, ages 0-18. Blanketeers create homemade, washable blankets of all sizes and styles and that are distributed to children "in need of a big hug." All styles of handmade blankets are welcome, including quilts, tied comforters, fleece blankets, crocheted or knitted afghans in child-friendly colors.
I first became aware of this organization through my ousin Lucille who is the Rochester coordinator for Project Linus. In fall 2001, the MCC Support Staff chose the organization as a community service project and nearly 100 beautiful blankets were donated to the local chapter.
Information about Project Linus (and free patterns) is available at "https://www.projectlinus.org/"www.projectlinus.org.
