Emily Rose Alvo, Member of Class of 2023, to Deliver Remarks at Commencement

I am delighted to announce that Emily Rose Alvo, member of the MCC Class of 2023, will deliver an address to fellow graduating students and guests at MCC's Commencement on Thursday, May 25, at 7:00 p.m. at the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial.

This is the third year an MCC student speaker has been selected for this distinguished honor.

Formerly employed in the food and beverage, e-commerce and communication industries, Emily Rose Alvo has worn many hats over the past 12 years but now prefers to wear a lab coat and nitrile gloves to work. She will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree from the Clinical Laboratory Technician program and will begin working full time in the Highland Hospital Blood Bank in June.

Emily came to MCC in summer 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in English. “I was looking for a career that is meaningful and stimulating and allows me to enjoy my life,” she said. Her love of problem-solving and her ability to maintain composure under pressure led her to pursue a career as a clinical lab technician. During her journey at MCC, she maintained straight A’s and earned two honors -- the 2022 American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science-New York scholarship award and the 2021 MCC Mathematics Department Exemplary Student Award.

"At MCC, I was inspired by the grace and determination of students who faced great challenges in pursuit of their education," she said. “I got an enriching, diverse experience.”

Emily lives in southeast Rochester with her partner, Tim, and loves meeting dogs, experimenting in the kitchen, and escaping to the Adirondacks.

MCC celebrates the success of the Class of 2023 and looks forward to the inspiring words of Emily Rose Alvo, our featured Commencement student speaker.
