Melany J. Silas, assistant professor in the Health and Physical Education Department, will be one of four women honored as “2012 Woman of the Year”, by the City of Rochester Black Heritage Committee. The Black Heritage Committee is holding its 10th Annual Gala on Saturday, February 25, 2012 and this year is the first time they have celebrated: “The Year of the Black Woman!” Silas is being honored for her work within the Rochester community and for empowering Black Women of all ages.
Silas is also presenting her second original Choreopoem at Hochstein Performance Hall on Friday, February 24th and Sunday February 26th. Discounted tickets are currently being sold for faculty, staff and students at the Service Desk in the Flynn Center (Brighton Campus) and at the Damon City Campus Bookstore (4th Floor).
