H1N1 Update

Recent public health reports indicate that the incidence of H1N1 flu is increasing in the New York City area. There has been a significant increase in symptoms among school-age children ages 5-17 years old, with multiple school closures over the past week.

Our primary concern is the health and safety of the MCC community. If you are travelling to NYC or expecting visitors from the NYC area, you may want to exercise the necessary precautions of frequent hand-washing and avoid contact with people who are ill. If you develop symptoms of fever, cough and sneezing, please see your physician promptly. Your health care provider can prescribe medication to reduce the symptoms. You must take the medicine in the first 48 hours of developing symptoms in order for the medication to be effective. Isolation is the best method to prevent the spread of the illness.

Please contact Health Services at 292-2510 if you develop symptoms of swine flu. The Health Services Department will work with the Monroe County Department of Health to report and track illness and keep the college community informed. For further information on H1N1, visit the CDC website at <https://www.cdc.gov/swineflu>
