McDonough Named Provost

I am very pleased to announce that Michael J. McDonough’s appointment as provost and vice president for academic services at Monroe Community College was approved by the MCC Board of Trustees yesterday.

Mike brings impressive qualifications and extensive academic experience to this new role. A member of the Academic Advisory Committee to The College Board, he also serves as college liaison for the Association of American Colleges and Universities and is a councilor in the Arts and Humanities Division of the Council for Undergraduate Research.

Before joining MCC in 2007 as Dean of Liberal Arts, he was an award-winning professor of English for 20 years at Alfred University, where he also served as chair of the English Division and Director of the Communication Studies Division. During his MCC tenure, he has earned the admiration of students and colleagues for his excellence as a faculty member and dean. He is an ideal choice to assume the role of MCC’s academic leader.

As provost and vice president, Mike will provide vision, leadership and oversight for all academic programs and related services. He will also be responsible for creating an innovative and high quality learning environment that promotes academic excellence and student success. Please join me in welcoming him to this exciting new position which he will
officially assume Friday, April 1.

Finally, I would like to express my deep gratitude to Kimberley Collins who has served as MCC’s interim vice president of Academic Services during the past academic year. She has provided outstanding leadership during this period and has contributed much to my staff. And, I thank Chris Abbott, chair of the Administrative Provost search team, Bonnie Connell and Marlene Fine, co-chairs of the SCAA Provost search committee and the members of both these teams for their dedicated efforts in helping to choose MCC’s new provost. Their fine work is evident in the result of the process.
