The Sociology Film Series presents Ava DuVernay’s 2016 documentary, "13th" on both MCC campuses. The title of the film refers to the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which allows for slavery and/or involuntary servitude as a punishment for being convicted of a crime. The film traces the historical progression of this Amendment to the current reality of mass incarceration in what is now called the criminal-justice prison industrial complex.
