MCC Daily Tribune

Do you know a student whose academic performance could use a jump start?

Recent data shows students who took COS 181 in spring 2023 had an average GPA of 1.66 and raised their GPA to an average of 2.09 by the end of the fall 2024 semester. As a 2.0 is required for graduation, COS 181 is supporting students toward that goal.

Check out this COS video to hear about the course from former COS 181 students.

COS 181 is an academic recovery course designed for students who are striving to achieve Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and to advance in their program of study. Students will use self-assessment, reflection, self-management practices, and research to analyze their past academic success.

Course topics include essentials for learning such as:

  • Life balance
  • Learning theory
  • Mindset for success
  • College resources
  • Motivational theory

Students will research topics based on their personal academic journey to create an individualized college success plan. Students will be provided with a mentor from the College community for support.

This course is designed for students on academic warning, academic restriction, or academic probation. Any student who is looking to improve their academic performance is welcome to enroll. Consult with your advisor and Financial Aid Course Eligibility (FACE) at face@monroecc.edu if you have financial aid eligibility questions related to this course.
