MCC Daily Tribune

ADA-accessible MCC Daily/Student Tribune and MCC Upcoming Events Calendar

MCC is committed to a sustained culture of accessibility and inclusivity for all students and employees. Part of fostering an inclusive, welcoming environment at MCC is ensuring students and employees have equal access to information across all platforms, regardless of ability or situation.

As a centralized source of news and information for our college community, the MCC Daily/Student Tribune and MCC Upcoming Events listing and calendar are designed to enable full and equitable participation of all members, consistent with the College’s core values and the Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines for postsecondary institutions.

To ensure content within your MCC Daily/Student Tribune and MCC Upcoming Events submission is more accessible to individuals with disabilities, please remember that any attachment (e.g., PDF, Word doc, etc.) must be ADA-compliant prior to posting.

It is your responsibility as author to ensure your attachment is ADA-compliant prior to posting. Please consider submitting an announcement that can stand on its own without an attachment or planning ahead to prevent delays in your posting.

Any file attached to a Tribune article or events calendar post deemed non-ADA-compliant will be temporarily removed from posting while the Computing & Information Technology staff work with you to modify the file. Then the approved file is re-attached to the original posting.

For information about making documents accessible, especially before converting them to PDFs, visit the Accessible Documents page. If you need further assistance in creating accessible documents, you may submit a Technology Services support request, along with the original document(s). The request will be tracked to ensure a timely response. The turnaround time for completion may take approximately a week or longer, depending on the size and complexity of your file. Customized templates are available upon request through Computing & Information Technology.

To help you create more accessible documents, here are some key points to remember:

  • Add a title in the document properties (see Page 5 in the attachment or more information can be found on the web page for "Accessible Word Documents").
  • Use a heading structure to organize content. Heading tags provide structural and navigational information to sighted and visually impaired users.
  • Include meaningful alt text for images.
  • Create descriptive hyperlink text to make hyperlinks accessible to all users, especially those using screen readers.
  • Test all hyperlinks before posting, and verify that the URL of the web page matches the one in your document.

If you have questions, please send them to Rebecca Orvetti at rorvetti@monroecc.edu or Dawn Voglewede at dvoglewede@monroecc.edu.

Thank you for your support.
