Important Notice from Public Safety Regarding Motor Vehicle Thefts

Nationwide and locally, a social media trend is resulting in an increase in motor vehicle thefts, especially of Kia and Hyundai vehicles. Some of these vehicles do not contain an internal immobilization device, resulting in criminals being able to steal the vehicle quickly without keys or key fobs by using a screwdriver and a USB cord. Immobilization devices, such as a steering wheel lock, may help deter the thefts.

As always, we ask the MCC community to be on the lookout for suspicious activity near vehicles, and notify Public Safety immediately at 585-292-2911 if you suspect anything out of the ordinary. Please feel free to also reach out with any questions or concerns and thank you for playing your role in keeping our campus community safe.
