MCC Public Safety: A CALEA Accredited Department

The Department of Public Safety at Monroe Community College is proud to be the first community college agency in the country to have achieved accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) Campus Security Accreditation Program. CALEA is recognized as the “Gold Standard of Public Safety”.

The Department of Public Safety at Monroe Community College was awarded accredited status by CALEA, within their Campus Security Accreditation Program, in the fall of 2020. This program focuses on the safety and security of students, faculty, staff and visitors to the campus.

The accreditation process involves an independent, external review and recognition of an organization’s ability to adhere to an established set of standards or best practices. To prove compliance, the agency must author and adapt written policies that conform to the standards. Reports or documents used to detail related functions must also comply with standard language. Onsite assessors visit the agency at regular intervals and audits of compliance are conducted annually.

The Year 3 annual compliance audit was recently conducted by a CALEA assessor and MCC Public Safety received a positive review. This review included interviews with department staff on the topics of the All Hazard Plan, Recrutiment and Retention, Property and Evidence, and Training.

Visit the CALEA website to learn more about them.
