What is Academic Coaching and How Can It Help Our Students?

Academic Coaches help students develop skills, behaviors, and habits that contribute to success in college.  Coaches assess student strengths and needs and individualize plans to improve academic performance.  Academic Coaches can help with time management and organization, goal setting, forming productive study habits, exploring and cultivating effective reading skills; and note-taking and test-taking strategies.  The goal of academic coaching is to assist students with developing and implementing effective learning strategies and study skills to become self-regulated learners.

MCC’s Academic Coaching Program is designed to provide individualized support to students with best practice tools and learning strategies to improve their academic performance.  Academic Coaches meet students where they are and support them in developing and achieving both their academic and personal goals.  Not only do Academic Coaches work in the TAAC, but they also collaborate with faculty and are connecting with students in classrooms. The goal of MCC’s Academic Coaching Program is to empower students to reach their full potential.
