“The day was full of hands-on activities, and I got to use different kinds of medical technology. I loved it!” exclaimed Gina Phommanirath, a Junior from NorthEast College Prep. Encouraged by staff member Mike Churnetski, she attended the Perry Outreach Program’s January workshop for aspiring female doctors. The invitation-only workshop, which involved a rigorous selection process, touched upon a variety of medical topics and tools, and included a bone drilling experiment. Gina plans on becoming a nurse, and received a better understanding of what the job would look like day-to-day.
This is the second year that Upward Bound has guided a student through the Perry Initiative application process and sent them to the workshop. We’re excited to see a student’s sense of future possibilities livened, and plan to keep equipping students to attend in the future!
