Advising ESOL Students

This spring, the ESOL Program will offer both noncredit and credit options at the high intermediate level. Please see the attached ESOL Program Flowchart.

If you are advising students who have taken ESL courses, and have questions about ESOL placement, prerequisites, or non-ESL course recommendations by English level, support is available.

Review the Notes in Degree Works. You’ll see who has worked with a student in the past, whether the student has met English, math, and science prerequisites, and if current ESOL professors recommend ESL electives for the student (ESL 139 Pronunciation, ESL 158 Oral Communication, or ESL 179 Grammar).

The Online Advising Handbook is available in Brightspace under Advisor Essentials. For ESOL resources, go to Chapter 6: Placement Information > ESOL Placement & Advising.

Contact Katie Leite (kleite@monroecc.edu), GEIS Advisor, or Pamela Fornieri (pfornieri@monroecc.edu), ESOL Program Coordinator.

Additionally, ESOL Program students may be referred to the Global Education & International Services (GEIS) office located in building 11, room 211 for ESOL advising support. Walk-ins are welcome. Students can also email mccglobaleducation@monroecc.edu or call (585) 292-3170 for an appointment.
