Interested in Continuing or Becoming a COS 181 Mentor?

Thank you to all the members of our college community who have volunteered to be a mentor for COS 181! You are making a difference in the lives of our students.

We are continuing to look for mentors for students enrolled in COS 181, Strategies for Academic Progress, during the spring 2024 semester! COS 181 is designed for students who are striving to achieve Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and to advance in their program of study. A key component of this course is a connection with a mentor in the College community.

Anyone who works at Monroe Community College can be a mentor. In our mentoring program, we strive to:

  • encourage students to create conditions that will help them thrive
  • cultivate curiosity and engage with a spirit of genuine care
  • practice being deep listeners and reflective questioners
  • support students on their journey at MCC (and beyond!)
  • create a transformational experience for both mentees and mentors

Being a mentor involves scheduling an initial meeting with your student either in person, by phone, through email, or on Zoom, and reaching out to your student regularly (suggested 1x per week) to discuss their well-being and progress. As a mentor, you’ll assist your mentee in finding campus resources, talk with your student about their current academic situation, co-create goals for their next steps, and - most importantly - provide encouragement to support your student.

If you are interested in continuing or becoming a mentor for one of our COS 181 students this spring, please complete the COS 181 Mentors form.

Thank you to those of you who have signed up and to those considering taking on this important role for student success.
