Student Services Professional Development Series Continues
Greetings to all. The Student Services fall professional development series continues through December. If interested in rsvp-ing for any of the remaining sessions listed below, please email Pam Rende (prende@monroecc.edu) and you will be sent a private zoom link. All employees are welcome.
I. CREATING A SENSE OF BELONGINGNESS TO INCREASE STUDENT SUCCESS
The SUNY SAIL training institute has recently provided extensive research to show that when students feel a sense a belongingness at an institution, their retention and graduation rates increase significantly. Please join us as several faculty and staff (Sherry Tshibangu, Diane Clements, Marla, Dinkle, James McCusker, and Eric Wheeler) provide insights into how this sense of belongingness is created in their classrooms, offices, and via zoom encounters.

II. SHIFTING CAREER PATHS: THE CHALLENGE AND TRIUMPH OF CHANGING ROLES
Join us for a panel discussion with two current and two former MCC employees to explore the challenge and excitement of seeking and finding new opportunities in higher ed, in the non-profit sector, and in the private sector. In addition to their own stories, we will explore tactics and techniques for anyone seeking new opportunities in the near term or well into the future.

III. FIVE PRINCIPLES TO GOVERN YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE
With all of the uncertainty at MCC and in higher education, this is the ideal time to reflect on your career path. This presentation will cover guiding principles that are applicable to all careers. Even if you plan to remain in your current position until retirement, this session will provide ideas and information to enhance your current role.

IV. THE IMPACT OF STORY TELLING IN A VIRTUAL WORLD
Anecdotes have increased in value and impact in our virtual world. Simply providing data and information via zoom meetings has proven to be mostly ineffective, as the material is often forgotten soon after the zoom encounter ends. History professor Mark Sample will co-host this discussion on how to incorporate stories into the classroom, meeting room, zoom sessions, and all aspects of life to increase impact and enhance influence.

V. PROJECT COMPLETE: USING THE WINTER BREAK TO ACCOMPLISH A PROFESSIONAL OR PERSONAL GOAL
Although the holiday season is often packed with family obligations, the winter break is also a period where major projects can be completed. Join us for a discussion on developing a personal strategy and plan to define, organize, and accomplish a professional or personal goal.

VI. ENGAGING AND MOTIVATING YOUR TEAMS: SUPERVISING BEST PRACTICES IN THE VIRTUAL AGE
Supervising staff and working with faculty is a critical role when the campus is fully functioning in-person, and it is even more important when nearly all employees are working from home. Join us for a panel of professional staff and academic leaders for this engaging conversation which will include tips on how to fully engage your teams during this virtual period. Since this session will be held over the winter break, we are going to expand the discussion to 90 minutes.
