As the College embraces the mission of economic development, it becomes critical for us to learn about and continue to develop expertise in this important arena. Consequently, on June 25th, the Technical Education Division sponsored a professional development workshop on the topic of economic development in the Rochester region. President Anne Kress kicked off the day with a presentation of her vision of the new Division of Economic Development and Innovative Workforce Services. Our keynote speaker was Mark Peterson, President of Greater Rochester Enterprise (GRE). GRE is one of the premier private agencies in the area dedicated to developing our regional economy. In the afternoon, we participated in a moderated panel discussion targeting specific industries. Our panelists included:
Mr. Bill Bastuk, Greater Rochester Area Apollo Alliance
Mr. Ed Hall, CEO, VisitRochester
Mr. Ed Maier, VP/GM Engineering and Operations, Harris RF Communications Div
Mr. Brad McAreavy, Rochester Automobile Dealers Association
Mr. Ryan Snyder, Economic Development Monroe County
We plan to hold two additional workshops on this topic over the coming months. Additional information can be found in the attached PowerPoint file from President Kress's presentation. Information is also available on the GRE website https://www.rochesterbiz.com/GRE/.
