Refuse: Garbage, trash, waste, debris, litter, detritus, dross, dregs, leftovers, junk. Environmentalists long before sustainability was imperative, artists have always incorporated the leftovers and detritus of civilization. Resourceful in their use of tools and materials, an infinite variety of items are intercepted by artists before ending up in landfills, or on the side of the road. For the artist, trash can represent a celebration of sustainable process, a contemporary genre based on salvaged, or just dedicated ethos to create.
