Passing of Adjunct Associate Professor Steven Bentley

The MCC family is saddened to learn of the passing of Steven Bentley, Ph.D., adjunct associate professor, on August 31, 2022.

Dr. Bentley joined MCC in 2002 and taught as an adjunct instructor in both psychology and sociology after retiring from Monroe County Department of Social Services, Child Protection Services.  He used his CPS experiences as a driving force for teaching. In 2006, he was promoted to adjunct assistant professor and, four years later, again moved up the ranks.

Dr. Bentley loved teaching both disciplines, watching our students learn more about themselves and the world around them. He held his “office hours” in the Brick Lounge so that our students could easily find him.  He was generous with his time and willingness to help our students succeed.

His other passions included reading, meditating, and spending time with his family and friends.

He earned his doctoral and master’s degrees from Columbia University and a bachelor’s from Colgate University.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Support Program, 259 Rutgers St., Rochester, NY 14607.

We are grateful for Dr. Bentley's dedication and valuable contributions. He is dearly missed.
