After 43 years of teaching and inspiring our students and community to pursue peace and embrace diversity and inclusiveness, Professor Charles R. “Charlie” Clarke (Psychology) is retiring from Monroe Community College on July 1, 2014.
As many of you know, Charlie’s scholarship, teaching and writing explores human sexuality, social psychology of the Holocaust and genocide, and the psychology of religion. He was chairperson of MCC’s Psychology Department for 18 years. For the past 11 years, he served as director of MCC’s Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project which was MCC’s first endowed chair. He is internationally regarded as a Holocaust scholar and in 2012 he further strengthened our college’s reputation and leadership when he attracted colleagues from around the world to MCC for the 42nd Annual Scholars’ Conference on the Holocaust and the Churches. His leadership and commitment was also demonstrated in his more than 30 years of service as an executive officer, contract administrator, and chief negotiator for the Faculty Association, an American Federation of Teachers affiliated union.
Please join me in congratulating Charlie for the many ways he has touched the lives of his students and colleagues. He has contributed greatly to the success of MCC.
