The Sixth Act and Geva

The Sixth Act is thrilled to announce a special co-curricular opportunity for MCC faculty, staff, and students!

Our next Sixth Act Night at Geva will be Thursday, November 3, at 7:30 PM, to see Geva's production of Matthew Lopez's Somewhere. Tickets for MCC faculty, staff, and students will only be $10, thanks to an anonymous donation.

Somewhere, directed by Zi Alikhan and choreographed by Karla Puno Garcia, riffs off the famous lyric from West Side Story: "There's a place for us.... Somewhere a place for us." Here's Geva's description of the play:

"It’s 1959, West Side Story has taken Broadway by storm, and from their family’s tiny apartment in the San Juan Hill neighborhood of Manhattan, the young Candelaria siblings dream of glamorous careers in show business. When the opportunity arises for this talented Puerto Rican family to audition for roles in West Side Story itself, all their dreams seem poised to come true – until a neighborhood-wide eviction abruptly threatens everything they have worked for. Tony Award-winning playwright Matthew López offers a humorous, moving and dance-filled portrait of a family set on edge by gentrification, stubborn idealism, and a profound love of the performing arts. Directed by Zi Alikhan (Hamilton, Resident Director) with choreography by Karla Puno Garcia (world premiere Noir by Duncan Sheik and Kyle Jarrow at Alley Theatre)."

Please contact Maria Brandt at mbrandt@monroecc.edu by Friday, October 7, if you're interested in participating, and/or if you have any questions.
