Once again, MCC athletic team's are doing very well. Out of five spring sports teams four of them are ranked nationally. Baseball is currenly 35-5 and ranked 3rd in the country. They will play on Friday, May 2nd, 2003 at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia, NY in the Region III Tournament. The Tribunes will play Onondaga Community College at 4:00 P.M. Not only is the team ranked but certain players are also ranked nationally. Sophomore, Chris Brownsten is the number one pitcher in the country for Div. II baseball and is ranked 9th in strike outs. Paul Sova ranks 11th in bases stolen. In 35 games he has stolen 24 bases. Sova also ranks 23rd in hitting. If the team wins this weekend they will advance to the district playoffs.
The Lady Tribunes softball team is also ranked nationally. Currenly they are ranked 3rd with an overall record of 19-4. Freshman, Kim Spreng is ranked #1 in the country for home runs in Div. III. Jill Diesel is ranked 2nd in the nation for hitting, she currently has a batting average of 600. Anna Marshall, a two sport standout in soccer and softball, is leading the nation in stolen bases. She has 38 bases stolen with a few more games left in regular season play. Regional information will not be available until next week. They play home on Sunday, May 4th at 1:00 P.M.
Lacrosse is currently competing in post season. They advanced to the Region III Final Four which will take place this weekend at Herkimer County Community College. MCC defeated SUNY Delhi 7-4 in a sub regional game this past Wednesday. Delhi had defeated MCC earlier in the season and also knocked the Tribunes out of the regional tournament in 2002. MCC is 9-3 and ranked 8th in the nation. They will play Herkimer on Saturday, May 3rd at 12:00 P.M. Herkimer is currently ranked first in the nation.
Men's tennis will be competing in the Region III Tournament this weekend at MCC. Teams will be competing from 9:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M on Saturday and Sunday. The tournament schedule will not be set until Friday evening at the coaches meeting. The Tribunes are 4-1 and hope to return to the national tournament.
Men's golf has placed 2nd and 1st in all of their tournaments. The Tribunes are ranked 14th in the country. MCC will compete in the Region III Tournament hosted by TC3 on May 12th and 13th.
