Intersession & Spring Semester 2021
Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for going above and beyond to stop the spread of COVID-19 within our community and at our college. By staying vigilant, we will bring the fall semester to a successful close while keeping our campuses and sites accessible for limited in-person learning through December.
MCC's plans for Intersession and Spring Semester 2021 will be submitted to SUNY for approval in December. As with the fall semester, the vast majority of MCC courses will be delivered online and remotely; limited in-person courses will also be offered.** Following are key details to know at this time:
- Intersession will run as scheduled Jan. 4-20, 2021; final grades will be due by noon Jan. 23.
- The spring semester will run Jan. 25-May 15*, with limited in-person courses.
- Instruction will continue without scheduled, weeklong winter and spring breaks; the academic term will be two weeks shorter.*
- The final exam period will begin on May 10; final grades will be due by noon May 18.*
- On-campus housing will be offered beginning in January for students taking intersession classes and throughout the spring semester for registered students.
- Students and employees who come to campus must regularly participate in MCC's pooled testing program and follow precautionary and mandatory quarantine directives. Students who violate health protocols and orders face conduct charges and sanctions.
- Pooled testing session dates for December 2020 and January 2021 will be confirmed after Thanksgiving Recess.
* The Spring Semester 2021 Academic Calendar is pending discussions with collective bargaining units and approval of the MCC Board of Trustees. The official calendar will be confirmed in early December.
Following SUNY approval, plans will be shared with you and posted to the website. Intersession and spring semester plans are subject to change pending directives from New York state, SUNY, and Monroe County. Faculty and staff will be informed of communications to students regarding the spring semester.
We have come a long way since MCC transitioned to fully distance learning 251 days ago. On behalf of our students, including the more than 400 who will earn their MCC degrees and certificates in December, thank you for inspiring every day, especially during this challenging time.

** During the spring semester, several instructors will pilot Hybrid Flexible ("HyFlex") classes. As determined by the instructor, HyFlex classes will offer students, on a given day, the choice to learn in-person, via Zoom during class time (synchronously), or through Blackboard outside of class time (asynchronously).
