Article Provides Details of MCC Study on Future of Technician Workforce
A front-page article in the Rochester Business Journal's Oct. 23 issue revealed findings of MCC's Future of the Technician Workforce Study.
Vice President Todd Oldham, Ed.D., whose team in the Economic and Workforce Development Center led the study, provided details for the article "MCC program designed to bridge skills gap for technicians." Matthew Hurlbutt, president and CEO of Greater Rochester Enterprise, shared the perspective of area employers in general.
On the increasing role that technology will play in businesses:
- "It will be pretty hard to go to work without seeing some smart technology. The reality of the job market of the future is that it will be highly technical." - Dr. Oldham

On how the study is impacting MCC's current and future academic programs:
- Making programs interdisciplinary will give students a range of qualifications necessary to succeed in the workplace. For example, the mechatronics program will place a stronger emphasis on the fields of robotics and augmented reality as well as on 3D printing. - Dr. Oldham
