First Semester Nursing Students Participated in Safe Zone Training
This past week we incorporated our first Safe Zone training session for our NUR 111 students. The training included information specific to caring for our LGBTQ+ patients in health care settings. The student feedback was overwhelmingly positive and many comments from students stated they were grateful for the inclusion of this content into the nursing curriculum. During class we did a very rough estimate about the possible number of patients our nursing students will potentially care for in their 30-40+ year careers in healthcare and came up with a number anywhere between 10,000-50,000. These future nurses will take this knowledge and provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for our LGBTQ+ patients, families, and friends.
