Service-Learning is alive and well in Lena Shiao’s ECE 151: Developmentally Appropriate Practice for Young Children. Students have been busy creating Science Kits to be donated to pre-school classrooms in the Rochester area. Each kit contains an exciting science project or activity complete with all the materials needed, open ended questions promoting critical thinking as the children progress through the experience. Students also included an element of literature (song, book, or poem) related to the theme of the activity. Finally, a journal for children and teachers to document feedback and other important information is included in each kit.
