In her upcoming "Go Green" segment, Katrina Irwin, anchor at WROC-TV (Channel 8) interviewed Doug Rivers, assistant professor in the automotive program at the Applied Technologies Center, about the new “Introduction to Automotive Hybrid Technology” course being offered in spring 2012.
The segment will air in the evening news on Thursday, Dec. 29 (https://rochesterhomepage.net/).
This course is designed to increase people’s understanding and awareness of hybrid/alternative fuel vehicles to help them become smarter consumers. Students will also gain a global perspective on the environment and the issues of global warming. The course would benefit anyone at MCC and in the community who is shopping for a hybrid vehicle, who already owns one or who is simply curious about the technology.
The Channel 8 crew also looked at the five hybrid vehicles at MCC’s Applied Technologies Center that will be part of class discussions: 2001 Toyota Prius, 2008 Toyota Prius, 2008 Chevy Malibu, 2009 Honda Civic and 2009 Chevy Silverado — the latter three were acquired in the fall semester through a grant and partnerships with local dealerships.
