Shake those December doldrums! MCC's Winter Jazz Concert will be held Wednesday, Dec. 10, 7:30 p.m. in the Brighton Campus Theatre. The concert will feature a mixture of traditional jazz and modern arrangements and, according to John Nyerges, faculty member, music, "some of the best music students to have ever come out of the music program at MCC."
In addition to performing four modern tunes ( New Rochelle, Freedomland, Spirits and Bright Lights), the jazz ensemble will also play the famous old Bobby Timmons blues tune, Moanin', In A Sentimental Mood (Duke Ellington), Georgia On My Mind (Hoagy Carmichael), Cute (Neal Hefti) and the ever-popular Sing, Sing, Sing (Louie Prima, original performed by Benny Goodman).
Guest artists will include two musicians who are "among the very best of the jazz performers in our area," says Nyerges -- "our own" Evan Dobbins on trombone and trumpeter Mike Kaupa.
The concert, free and open to the public, will also feature some small combo playing as well.
