Are Your Students Struggling with Research? MCC Libraries Can Help!

Did you know that a recent survey conducted for the assessment of information literacy in the general education curriculum indicated that using library databases was the most challenging part of the research process?

One student said, "Finding good sources about my topic with the online databases [sic] was a difficult and long process. I was able to find a lot of articles but very few of them were good and I ended up spending more time searching for articles than I did actually doing the assignment.."

The good news is that students also said they valued search strategies they learned from librarians: “I know now that if I want to use the library database that it will be in my best interest in the future to use a librarian to help find the type of articles or information that I am looking for.”

So we’re here to help! If you notice any students this semester who are struggling with research, feel free to refer them to the library. They can simply drop by the Brighton Campus Library or the Downtown Campus Learning Commons during open hours where a librarian is always in person, use 24/7 chat, email us at libraries@monroecc.edu, or make a personal research help appointment from the MCC Libraries website or the Library Services tile on myMCC.

You can also share this link that allows students to schedule appointments with a librarian (feel free to post this to Brightspace): https://monroecc.libcal.com/appointments
