WROC-TV's Report on Student Enrollment
WROC-TV recently interviewed Christine Casalinuovo-Adams, associate vice president of Enrollment Management, for its segment on increased interest in trade schools among high school students.
The article noted that as college enrollment has declined nationwide, "with men leading the drop in numbers," one local high school has seen more of its students go into career technical schools. Andrea Goodfellow, a counselor at Wheatland-Chili High School, is quoted in the report.
Christine offered her insight into the shift in postsecondary education plans:
- Increased employment opportunities lead students to immediately enter the workforce after high school graduation and to defer their college plans. In fall 2022, MCC student enrollment was composed of 58% female and 42% male.
- With staffing shortages in many fields, job opportunities are available for new high school graduates to develop their skills in the trades.
- MCC offers various options for students, including noncredit programs, accelerated training and applied learning that prepare them for career success.
