Employee FAQs:
Q1. If I have not been designated as a "critical" employee mandated to work on campus or to telecommute, what should I be doing at home?
A1. You should perform as much work as you are able while at home. Please check your emails and your voicemail. The College is open for business; we are simply moving our staff offsite where possible to stop the spread of the disease. Stay up to date on developments at MCC by checking the MCC Daily Tribune on a regular basis since updates to our community will be communicated via the Tribune. Updates can also be found via the College's website, www.monroecc.edu.
The expectation is that all employees who are at home receiving pay from the College should be ready, willing and able to work and could be called into work with a few hours' notice or a days' notice. If you are unable to work, because you are out of town or are sick, you should be using your leave accruals.
Q2. Are the decisions of who is a critical employee final?
A2. No. Under the College's Pandemic Response Plan, any position may be designated as critical at any point during the emergency even if not designated as critical prior to the emergency. We ask our employees who at this time have not been designated as "critical" and mandated to work on campus or to telecommute be ready to step in if extenuating circumstances require.
Employees who are not deemed critical under the Pandemic Response Plan are still important to the College's mission and play a part in helping operations continue and ensuring that we are responsive to inquiries from members of the College community.
Q3. Do I still need to submit a timesheet?
A3. Yes. Employees, regardless of whether they have been identified as critical or not, must continue to submit timesheets via myMCC .
If you need to remind yourself of 2019-2020 pay day and timesheet due dates, log in to myMCC and click on the Employee tab; click on the Employee Essentials subtab and locate the Online Forms and Documents section; finally, click on the Payroll link and you will find the 2019-2020 Payday/Time Sheet Due Dates.
Q4. I'm a part-time hourly employee and I have been informed by my supervisor that I will not be scheduled to work at the College as of March 19. I have heard news reports about possible leave benefits through the federal government or NYS; am I eligible?
A4. At this time, the College is unaware of any legislation that has been passed which requires pay for part-time hourly employees who are not being assigned to work due to the COVID-19 outbreak. However, government response at the federal, state, and local level is evolving daily. The College will continue review any and all legislation that is enacted to assist employees with the impact of the virus.
We are aware that New York State has lifted the 7-day waiting period for affected employees to receive unemployment benefits. If you are impacted by the College's limited operations because you are not being scheduled to work, we recommend that you file for unemployment benefits. Step by step information on how to file online for those benefits is available on the New York State Department of Labor website: https://labor.ny.gov/unemploymentassistance.shtm
Q5. What can I do to protect myself and my family?
A5. Help reduce the number of cases by practicing social distancing; cover coughs and sneezes; avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth; wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers; stay home if you are sick or if you have been exposed to anyone who is sick; and call the novel coronavirus hotline 1-888-364-3065 with questions and concerns.
