Dr. Michael Jacobs, Acting Provost & Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs

Pending the MCC Board of Trustees’ approval on April 22, 2024, Dr. Mike Jacobs has accepted the opportunity to serve as MCC’s Acting Provost and Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, effective April 1, 2024.

Currently serving MCC as Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Jacobs is well suited for this role. Dr. Jacobs brings 22 years of higher education experience, including roles as a professor, department chair, and dean overseeing three academic schools at Monroe Community College. Since joining MCC in 2017, he has led institution-wide initiatives in line with the college's mission, including the Unlocking Opportunity Network and the development of new liberal arts programs. Dr. Jacobs is a nationally recognized figure in community college humanities education, serving as Chair of the Modern Language Association’s Committee on Community Colleges and Deputy Director for the Community College Humanities Association. I am confident that Dr. Jacobs will bring an insightful perspective on how to ensure the work we do will directly benefit MCC students.

Through this transitional role, Dr. Jacobs will focus on:

  1. Finalizing and implementing the Academic and Student Success Master Plan.
  2. Leveraging expertise and talent across Academic Services and Student Services to enhance and align supports for MCC students.
  3. Ensuring continuity of executive leadership for Academic and Student Services upon the departure of Provost and Vice President Dr. Margaret Semmer on March 15, 2024, until a permanent leader is appointed July 1, 2024.

Dr. Jacobs invites applicants for the position of Interim Dean, Humanities & Social Sciences—to serve in this role from April 1 to July 1. Interested employees should send a CV to Maria Karras, Management Assistant to the Dean (mkarras@monroecc.edu)  by 4:45 pm on Wednesday, March 27. Dr. Jacobs will interview up to two candidates for the position.

Please join me in expressing our thanks and appreciation for Dr. Jacob’s willingness to provide oversight to Academic and Student Affairs.
