The Week Ahead

The office of Student Life & Leadership Development presents the following events for next week (please share with students):

National Society for Leadership & Success Induction Ceremony

  • Monday, April 15th, 12:00 to 1:00 pm, Brighton Campus Center Forum (3-130)

Come celebrate this year’s National Society for Leadership and Success (NSLS) inductees at the inaugural induction ceremony. Students will be celebrated for completing their leadership certificate through NSLS.

Peace of Mind Event

  • Monday, April 15th, 12:00 to 1:00pm, Brighton Campus Center Atrium

Join First Year Experience, Counseling & Disability Services, and Student Life and Leadership Development for a Peace of Mind relaxation event. Make your own spa goody bags and yogurt bar will be included, while supplies last.

The Little Theater Fundraising Event

  • Tuesday, April 16th, 5:30 to 8:30 pm, The Little Theater (240 East Ave.)

Join the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project for a fundraising event at The Little Theater. The Little will be showing A Beautiful Life and all proceeds from ticket sales will be going to Water for South Sudan Inc. This event is open to the public!

Spread the Word Inclusion Event

  • Wednesday, April 17th, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Downtown Campus 2nd Floor Lounge

Join the Disability Awareness club for their spread the word inclusion event where they are partnering with multiple clubs and organizations to share information and pledge to make campus a more inclusive environment. Enjoy games, therapy dogs, giveaways, and food while supplies last.

Phi Theta Kappa Induction Ceremony

  • Wednesday, April 17th, 6:00 to 7:00pm, Brighton Campus Theater (Bldg. 4)

Join the Alpha Theta Iota chapter as they honor Monroe Community College’s outstanding students who will be inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society during the spring induction ceremony.

Cherry Blossom Festival

  • Thursday, April 18th, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, Brighton Campus Center Terrace

Join Global Union for a Cherry Blossom festival including a ramen bar, whishing cherry blossom tree and lively K-pop tunes to set the mood!

Student Music Open Mic

  • Thursday, April 18th, 2:30 to 4:00pm, Brighton Campus Center Deja Brew  

Join Student Music Association for their open mic afternoons. They invite you to sing along or sing solo! Refreshments will be served.

Lego Bot Battle

  • Friday, April 19th, 12:00 to 1:00pm, Brighton Campus Bldg. 9-263 

Join IT Club for a Lego bot battle where students will use LEGO Mindstorms to design, build, and battle robots in a friendly competition.

Society of Women Engineers Guest Speaker

  • Friday, April 19th, 12:00 to 1:00pm, Brighton Campus Bldg. 7-107 

Join SWE+ STEM for Guest Speaker Dr. Becky Borrelli, Principle Optics Engineer. Dr. Borrelli was the lead in optics testing for the James Webb Telescope. Food and drinks will be available.

Other News:

  • Tax Help on Campus: The Department of Taxation and Finance will be on campus to help students get in person tax help and file for free. Help will be available Friday 4/15 on Downtown Campus from 9:30- 4:30 pm in room 300. Students must pre-register for an appointment at www.tax.ny.gov/tap/
  • Student Government Association student leaders will participate in the Student Assembly spring conference next weekend.  At this conference they will elect new members of the SUNY Student Assembly. Vice President Angelo Romero is campaigning for the Community College representative seat on the Assembly.
