WATI...What is it?

Web Assisted Tobacco Intervention (WATI) is an online research study from the University of Rochester Medical Center. It is for community college students at least 18 years of age who smoke cigarettes.  The student receives compensation for completing surveys at 1, 6, and 12 months whether or not they stop smoking.  The student remains in the study for 12 months.  Everything is online and it is up to the student how much or how little they interact with the cessation website.

MCC is one of twenty community colleges taking part in this study. To date 4045 students from all colleges enrolled have inquired and 706 students are enrolled in the study. 1046 MCC students have inquired about the study and 142 MCC students are enrolled.  MCC has the largest student participation of all the colleges enrolled in this study.

Over 600 participants have received at least their $10 incentive for completing the 1 month follow-up survey, which is a 5 minute survey.  200 participants have received their $15 incentive for completing their 6 month survey.  Outcomes from the data collected will be determined after all participants complete the 12 month follow-up survey.

There is still time to be part of the WATI research study.  For information you may call 585-276-6243, email: HYPERLINK "mailto:WATI@urmc.rochester.edu", go to: https://wati.urmc.edu or visit Health Services at MCC.  Health Services has information on WATI and the health risks of tobacco use, e-cigarettes and benefits of being Tobacco Free.
