Dreamkeepers, Single Stop Programs Help Students Overcome Financial Emergencies

Please spread the word to students:

MCC students experiencing unforeseen financial emergencies can apply online for assistance through MCC's Dreamkeepers and Single Stop programs and stay on track to complete their educational goals.

What is Dreamkeepers?
Through Dreamkeepers (https://monroecc.dreamkeepers.org/), grants of up to $500 are awarded to help students with emergencies such as unexpected expenses related to internet access, food, housing, and medical and dental expenses. The grants do not need to be paid back.

Eligibility requirements for services and other information can be found online. Applications are processed daily and treated with high priority in response to MCC students' needs.

MCC's participation in Dreamkeepers was made possible by a lead gift from MCC alumni Timothy '80 and Robin '80 Wentworth and is supported through philanthropic funding from the Wegman Family Charitable Foundation to the Monroe Community College Foundation.

What is Single Stop?
Through Single Stop (https://www.monroecc.edu/organizations/singlestop/), MCC students and immediate family members are connected to free and low-cost community resources and services throughout Greater Rochester, including assistance with food benefits, health care and tax preparation.

All Single Stop services through MCC are personalized, confidential and free to MCC students and their immediate family members.

Here's how to get started:

  • Using a web-based, multilingual tool, students complete a form to begin the process of determining their program eligibility and to receive information about which community resources may be available to them and their immediate family members. Students can access the tool anywhere and anytime.
  • MCC program staff review students' applications to assess students' eligibility for benefits, assist in the application of benefits, and follow up with individuals to make sure they receive the benefits.
  • Eligible students are connected with MCC program staff and, in some cases, with community resource professionals to access community services.

The Single Stop at MCC program is made possible by a grant from the Avangrid Foundation and is supported by a growing network of local community-based entities.

For information on all resources and services available through MCC, please visit the MCC Libraries - Resources for Students guide.
