Who are MCC's Student Parents? 5 Facts from Recent Data
Did you know MCC has over 1300 student parents enrolled this semester?
Most of our student parents are:
- single parents (960)
- female (1097)
- between the ages of 35-44 (410), 30-34 (381)
- Black (517), White (458), Hispanic (217)
- enrolled full time (621)
The Single Moms Success Design Challenge (SMSDC) grant (awarded to MCC in 2019) utilizes a human-centered design approach and supports the core team (Kim DeLardge, Renee Dimino, and Medea Rambish) in designing supports to help increase single mom learners' rates of graduation and/or transfer to a four-year college.
According to “4 Ways to Meet Student Parents’ Needs on Campus” by Ashley Mowreader, one way to support student parents is to assign a liaison who acts as a single point of contact.
For the 23/34 academic year, Renee Dimino (ESOL/TRS) is the Single Mom Learners Success Coach. In this role, she coaches students by sharing resources and offering assistance in navigating higher education.
Feel free to refer students to Renee and/or reach out to the core team to collaborate regarding student parents.
