Passing of Helen Elam, Retiree, Information Service Secretary

The MCC family mourns the passing of Helen Elam, retired from MCC’s Information Service Department, on October 6, 2023, at the age of 94.

Helen joined MCC in 1974 as a Typist-Clerk and was promoted to Clerk 2 and then ultimately, to Secretary. She was a recipient of the Support Staff Award Program, and formed the MCC Secretarial Association. As a reminder of Helen’s hard work and dedication to MCC, a CSEA scholarship was named in her memory.

Following 20 years of service, Helen retired from MCC, in 1994. Following her retirement, she founded the Henrietta Historical Society, and was part of the committee that created the Antoinette Brown-Blackwell Society to honor the First Women Minister in the US that resided in Henrietta (her homestead still remains and is on the historic register). In 1990, Helen became the Town Historian of Henrietta. The author of numerous articles on the history of Henrietta, and the historical book on Henrietta entitled “Images of America – Henrietta”.

Helen earned a BS in Secretarial Science from Nazareth College.

Helen is survived by her children, James D. Elam, Mary Beth (Jay) Prosnitz and Helen Maeve (Ben) Mac An Tuile; grandchildren, Aaron (Hilary) Prosnitz and Daniel (Mounifa) Prosnitz; great-grandchildren, David, Elizabeth and Sarah Prosnitz; sisters-in law, Kathy Saetta (Mike) Sharon Commisso (Jim) and Loetta Elam; step-grandchildren, Tanya and Aidan Finn; special God-daughter and niece, Deirdre Dalton; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
