On Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at Monroe Community College's Brighton Campus
Dr. Gail Hughes, assistant professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine-Epidemiology
at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, will speak about emerging infectious diseases.
The seminar will be held in room 3-172 and is sponsored by the MCC chapter
of Phi Theta Kappa. The free event is open to the public and will be routed through a
live satellite feed from Phi Theta Kappa International Offices in Jackson,
Miss. The presentation will be interactive with audience members and
participants at other colleges throughout the country via live phone calls.
Hughes has extensive experience in public health care, community health and
health education, and has taught and served as a health consultant in
California and Mississippi. She has developed community health programs and
clinics in South America, India, South Africa and Cuba, and has been especially
involved with women's health and minority health issues.
Dr. Hughes has spoken and presented studies at many national and international
conferences, including the 6th Annual International Conference on AIDS. She received
her PhD., Public Health from the University of California School of Public
