Liberty Partnerships Program Students Spring Into Action!

Students of MCC’s Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) participated in educational, action-packed and fun-filled activities over the spring break. They toured the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center (REOC) to learn about vocational programs offered there, including cosmetology, nursing and pharmacy technology. REOC culinary students showed off their skills, preparing a delicious lunch for the LPP youth.

The next day, LPP students learned about the art of self-defense from Sensei Dave Cialini, owner of Sayokan USA. After a review of basic strategies and concepts, they had a chance to actively practice self-defense techniques in the dance studio. Later in the day, Staff from TOPS Cooking School showed LPP students how to prepare healthy snacks, including fruit kabobs, fresh salsa, vegetable sushi rolls and smoothies.

The last day of programming was a trip to SUNY Morrisville, a college known for its agriculture and technology programs. Students participated in a discussion about the admissions process, toured the campus, learned about the new human performance/health promotion program and had lunch at the all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant on campus. In all it was an exciting, informative and eventful week.

LPP is funded by the New York State Education Department to serve at-risk Rochester City School District youth grades 7-12.
