TCC: Reminder About Fall Conversation #1 on Sept. 19

We hope to see you on Monday, Sept. 19, 12:00-12:50 PM, for Asset-Based Pedagogy: An Introductory Conversation, the first in the TCC's Conversations series this semester.

This event is on Zoom only, and will be facilitated by Bob Muhlnickel (English & Philosophy) and Betty Mandly (Education & Human Services). Maria Brandt (English & Philosophy) is a featured participant.

This conversation kicks off our theme for the coming year: Ditching Deficit-Based Pedagogy: Leveraging Student Assets. The conversation has three parts. First, a colleague will give a brief account of what it means to focus on student strengths rather than deficits and why we need to focus on student strengths. Second, three faculty members will describe efforts to introduce asset-based strategies into student engagement, learning, and assessment. Third, participants have the opportunity to reflect on their instructional practice and plan one small step toward asset-based pedagogy they can take this year.

Here are some resources on asset-based pedagogy and the psychology of attributing flaws to others’ character:

All from the MCC community are welcome! Zoom link is attached, as well as in the Events Calendar.
