In the last few days you may have seen media coverage of lobbying expenses incurred by area colleges. Nearly all area colleges have representation in Washington D.C.; a presence there is critically important to ensure that our elected representatives and the administration understand our college, the ways in which we are meeting local needs, and our vision for doing even more to ensure the economic vitality of area residents and our community as a whole.
In prior years, the College engaged the services of external representation. For budgetary reasons, in January we decided to cancel the contract, giving the three months notice our contract required. As you know, we are searching for a new vice president for economic development and innovative workforce services, a position that will work closely with President Kress, the Grants Department and the College and Community Relations Department on federal relations initiatives. Additionally, President Kress has already established a significant presence in Washington.
