RSVP Today for September's Adjunct Supper for Success

Register for the adjunct supper on September 12th by noon on Tuesday, September 6th using the link below.

What comes out of our mouths is perfectly clear to us, but for many reasons our wisdom and instruction are often received and processed in ways that create misconceptions. Join us for Searching for Misconceptions, led by Dr. Elizabeth Walker (Mathematics Department). This interactive session will share tools for identifying content and conceptual misconceptions students may make as well as strategies for challenging and rectifying those misunderstandings.

Since the start of the pandemic, we've missed an important part of the Suppers for Success series: sharing a meal together while we discuss teaching. We are thrilled to return to in-person workshops, while providing “supper.” Dinner starts at 5:00 pm, and the program begins around 5:15 pm. Check in opens at 4:45 pm. Coming from class? Don't worry, you are welcome to slip in even if you have to be late.

One special attraction for the September event:  SI representatives prior to the start of the program, from 4:45 – 5:15 pm, will talk about the program, share information, and answer your questions.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a program that has been in effect at MCC for three years. It is a series of weekly collaborative study sessions for students taking historically difficult courses. Faculty have an SI specifically assigned to their class. Together you determine what types of content you would like an SI to assist with in the study sessions – this could be quiz/exam preparation, project development and coaching, etc. It has been shown that students who attend SI sessions earn better grades and strengthen and/or develop new skills such as learning, communication, problem solving, note taking, and graphic organization.

We look forward to seeing you Monday, September 12 from 5 - 6:30 pm, Monroe A.
