COS 181 Mentors Needed

The ESOL/TRS department is piloting an academic recovery course, Strategies for Academic Success-COS 181 as a late-start course beginning the week of February 27. This course is designed for students who are striving to achieve Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and to advance in their program of study.

A key component to this course will be a connection with a mentor in the College community. A mentor can be a positive influence in a student’s life, help students discover answers, find alternate solutions, and brainstorm needed resources. The mentor’s role is that of a supporter and guide.  Mentors and their students will meet (in person or virtually) throughout the semester to check in on the student’s progress. Anyone who works at the College is eligible to volunteer to be a mentor.

We are hosting a COS 181 Mentor Information Session on Zoom Tuesday, February 7 at 4:00 pm. Please feel free to join us to learn more information on this exciting opportunity.

If you are interested in volunteering to be a mentor to one of our COS 181 students this Spring or have questions about this opportunity, please email Donna Burke(dburke@monroecc.edu).
